Gene and Lyla Hawkins and children Kelli, Erin and Chris live near Maurice. Gene and his brother, Roy, farm 1,000 acres, 320 of which have been designated Century Farm ground. Gene started farming that piece in 1980. His great-great-grandfather Henry J. Hawkins acquired the land in 1886. It was passed to great-grandfather, H. Jackson Hawkins, grandfather Merrit A. Hawkins and to Gene’s father Kenneth M. Hawkins.
