OBITUARY ~ RUTH (WELHOUSEN) CHANDLER
October 04, 1920 ~ April 04, 2014

Family members are sad to announce the death of Ruth W. Chandler on April 4, 2014 at the age of 93.

Ruth was born October 4, 1920 in rural Iowa near Titonka to Mary and Garret Welhousen. She had one older brother, John, deceased. She graduated from Titonka High School and Iowa State Teachers College and met her future husband, Herman, in Kellerton, Iowa, while teaching. During World War II she worked for the Federal Aviation Agency in several airports in Nebraska as an air traffic controller. Herman and Ruth were married on December 7, 1944, in Hartford, Connecticut where Herman was stationed with the Army Air Force.

They settled in Oakwood near Dayton, Ohio. Herman worked as an aircraft engineer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Ruth raised two children and worked for Charles Dille, M.D. and later for First National Bank.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years - Herman Ross Chandler, two children - Cynthia Daughterty and Douglas Frank Chandler, as well as six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Donations in Ruth's name may be made to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45420.

Services will be held graveside at Maple Row Cemetery near Kellerton, Iowa, on Monday May 19th at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Robin Thomas officiating. Arrangements will be facilitated by Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr, Iowa.
