Glenn Orville Larsen was born in Loup City, NE. on February 23, 1921 and departed this life on January 26, 2005
at the Ringgold County Hospital, Mt. Ayr.
Glenn was the eldest of six sons born to Chris & Fern (Quartz) Larsen, At the age of 15, he lost the fingers on his
right hand in a silage cutter accident. He completed high school at Loup City, NE. The Larsen family moved to
Westboro, MO. in 1939 where Glenn drove a truck for several years before moving to Clearfield.
On November 5, 1949, he was united in marriage to Helen Nocton. In 1951, they moved to a farm Southeast of
Clearfield. Both Glenn and Helen drove school buses for a number of years.
While farming, he started in the insurance business with Farmers Mutual Insurance, selling crop insurance and doing
hail adjusting. He retired in 2004 with 35 years of service, receiving several awards.
Glenn was a charter member of the Clearfield Lions Club, having served as President and most recently Grand
Marshall of the 2004 Fourth of July parade. He loved traveling and camping, especially with his grandsons, at the
Iowa State Fair. He also served many years as a city councilman helping Clearfield to improve. His hobbies
included woodworking, crafts, fishing, and spending time with his friends at the "coffee shop" which he thoroughly
enjoyed.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years. Helen; daughter Karen and son-in-law Jerry Horton, Richland, IA.;
grandson Gary & wife Sara a great grandchildren Trevor, Taylor and Samantha. Ft. Wayne, IN.; grandson Bob,
Fairfield, IA.; one brother Jim & wife Eleanor, Decatur, AL.; sisters-in-law Dorthea, Darlene, Priscilla, and Cleota;
a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Orrin. Richard. Harold, Boyd and a great niece, Monica
Longfellow.
The services were held Jan. 26 at the United Methodist Church. Clearfield. with Rev. Len Garrison, officiating.
Providing music were Patty Parrish and Chantelle Jennett. The casket bearers were Kenneth Larsen, Ray Dean
Larsen, Bill Larsen, Jim Polsley, Dick Longfellow, and Jerry Mattson.
Interment was in the Clearfield Cemetery
