OBITUARY ~ ALICE DEANE (WAUGH) GARDNER
February 12, 1928 ~ April 12, 2014Alice Deane (Waugh) Gardner, 86, died peacefully on April 12, 2014. Alice Deane was born February 12, 1928 in Worth County, Missouri to Clifton Verne Waugh and Alta (Miller) Waugh. She was united in marriage to Glenn Gardner on June 9, 1946 in the Methodist Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. Alice graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1947.
Alice and Glenn lived in Crete, Nebraska, Mt. Ayr, and Diagonal before purchasing and moving to a farm near Arispe in 1959, where she was a homemaker and farmwife. Alice was a very active 4H leader and a member of the Arispe Methodist Church and DAR Nancy McKay Harsh Chapter. Alice enjoyed (and excelled at) cooking, preserving fruits and vegetables, and making sure one did not leave her table hungry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Alta; son, Stephen; and brother, Harold Verne.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 67 years, Glenn Gardner; four children, Nancy (John) Kunze, Alan (Connie) Gardner, David (Sue) Gardner and Sharon Gardner; eight grandchildren: Julie Kvasnicka, Matt Gardner, Melissa McVeigh, Diana Kunze, Josh Kunze, Sara Gardner, Ellen Gardner and Ross Gardner; six great-grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr. Interment was made at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.
