February 14, 1928 ~ April 01, 2014Doris Delene Coulson, age 86 of Lamoni, Iowa, daughter of Laurence Frederick and Bernice Ivena (Shields) Borrusch, was born February 14, 1928 in Tingley, Iowa and died April 1, 2014 at home in Lamoni, under the loving care of her family.
Doris grew up in Tingley and graduated from Tingley High School. She eloped and married Kenneth Coulson on September 8, 1955 in Lamoni. Four children were born to them: Kristine, Kendall, Kathlene, and Karyn. The family lived on a farm south of Leon and later in town, and in Lamoni.
Doris took pride in being a good mother and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and sewing. Doris and Kenneth, and the children as they grew up, had many enjoyable camping trips to Yellowstone, Oregon, and Arizona. Doris liked the mountains. She loved cats and all animals, even black bears.
The things Doris hated: long stockings, gardening, fishing, bugs, and mice. However, she deeply loved her family and was proud of her children and grandchildren. Doris was funny and laughed often. The grandchildren spent lots of summer time with Granny, playing cards and "drinking coffee" early in the morning.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth in April 2000; brother Lloyd Deane Borrusch; and sisters Barbara Borrusch and Betty Mason.
Surviving are her children: Kris Peddicord and husband Jim of Osceola, Iowa, Kendall Coulson and wife Anna of Kansas City, Missouri, Kathlene "Kate" Coulson of Lamoni, and Karyn Malcom and husband Ed of Bella Vista, Arkansas; 5 grandchildren: Jamie Hutzell and husband Cody of Osceola, John Peddicord of Osceola, Joanna Peddicord of Chattanooga, Tennessee, April Durgin of Bella Vista, and Ami Ricketts and husband Aaron of Illinois City, Illinois; great grandchildren Ezekiel and Elijah Hutzell and one on-the-way, and Ryan Ricketts; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be given to the Mt. Ayr office of Hospice of Central Iowa.
Funeral services were Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa, with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial was in Decatur Cemetery at Decatur, Iowa.
