OBITUARY - RAMONA C. (OEHLERTZ) SHIFLETT

Ramona SHIFLETT, 82, of Afton, died Monday, October 11, 2010 at her daughter’s home near Winterset. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2010 at the Powers Funeral Home 612 N. Dodge Str. in Afton. Pastor Dwayne HENRICHS will officiate. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, east of Afton. Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with family receiving friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Powers Funeral Home in Afton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are to the Hospice of Central Iowa. Online condolences may be given under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com.

Ramona C. SHIFLETT, daughter of Ella A. (PETERS) OEHLERTZ and Rudolph F. OEHLERTZ, was born on July 6, 1928 in Avoca, Ia. She graduated from Arispe High School in 1946. In 1946, she married Warren N. STEWART. To this union came four children, Jim, Darrell, Dickey and Sheila. They later divorced.

On March 16, 1961, she married the love of her life, Jack E. SHIFLETT in Bedford, Ia. having now enjoyed nearly 50 years of togetherness. Ramona was a farmwife for many years. They lived most of their life in Union and Ringgold County. Ramona co-owned and operated the Long Branch from 1971 to 1981. She went on to work at the Bakery Easters Grocery in Creston from 1982, until retiring in 1995. Ramona was baptized in the Lutheran Church as a child. She was a member of the Lorimor American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Jack SHIFLETT of Afton; three sons, Jim (wife Linda) STEWART of Shenandoah, Darrell (wife Norah) STEWART of Nora Springs and David (wife Kathy) SHIFLETT of Grant City, Mo; a daughter, Sheila (husband David) STEWART of Winterset; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy (husband Bob) PAULSEN of Eldridge, Ia.

Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, her sons, Dickey and Steve, a brother, Norman OEHLERTZ and a sister, Betty FOOTE.
