OBITUARY - DONALD E. HANSON

FOREST CITY — Donald E. HANSON, age 69, of Forest City, died Thursday [June 3, 2010] at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City (following a heart transplant).

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 7, at West Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Leland with Pastor Timothy Miller officiating. Burial at Norway Township in rural Kanawha will follow a luncheon at the church.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Sunday, June 6, at Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City and one hour prior to service at the church.

Donald E. HANSON was born in Fort Dodge on March 15, 1941, to Roy E. and Bertha (AMOSSON) HANSON. He graduated from Belmond High School in 1959. Don began his career with the Iowa State Department of Transportation in Clarion in 1959. Don married Shirley TRIPP on June 18, 1961, at Belmond. They were blessed with three children. In 1978, Donald was promoted and the family moved to Forest City. Don finished his career after 37 years in Mount Ayr, and came back to Forest City where he retired.

Don was active in West Prairie Lutheran Church by serving on various church boards and was church council president. Don loved to fish and spent many years fishing in Minnesota and Canada and enjoyed salmon fishing in Wisconsin. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, and socializing with friends over coffee.

Don is survived by Shirley, his wife of 48 years; his children, Kathy and husband Kevin TRIGGS of Mount Ayr, Kristine and husband Jerome CHRISTIANSON of Hartley, James and wife Denise HANSON of Brooklyn; four grandchildren, Johnathan and Tyler Triggs, Colton CHRISTIANSON, Erica Lynn ORRELL; his brother Roy and wife Diane HANSON of Fort Dodge; sister Linda HANSON of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents.
