OBITUARY - FRANK HOPKIRK

Frank HOPKIRK, son of James and Harriet "Emma" (TOOTHAKER) HOPKIRK, was born Nov. 8, 1873, at Lockridge, Iowa, and died at his home in Ruskin, Nebr., July 6, 1946. He graduated from Fairfield, Iowa high school in 1892 and came to Ruskin in Jan. 1898. He worked at the J. R. PARSONS Hardware & Implement store for 8 years, then was manager of the Union Lumber Co. for 37 years, until the Company closed out of the business. For the last 3 years he had been with the Scroggin Lumber Co. at Deshler.

May 20, 1902 he was married to Iva JONES. Five children were born to this union: Mrs. Margaret KHOTZ, Stockton, Calif.; Maurice HOPKIRK, Ruskin, Nebr.; Kent HOPKIRK, Mrs. Harriet KALLIAM and Eldon HOPKIRK, all of San Mateo, Calif. Surviving are his wife, five children and five grandchildren: Don, David and Beth HOPKIRK and Carol and Diane KALLIAN, and one aunt, Mrs. J. R. PARSONS, Superior, Nebr. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and two brothers.

Mr. HOPKIRK was a member of the Modern Woodman and Masonic lodges. And was Past master of both the Oak and Ruskin lodges, also a 32 degree Mason in the Scottish Rites.

He had served as a member of the school board and town board.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the Community Church, conducted by the Rev. Roland C. PROPST of Superior. Mrs. G. H. WRIGHTSMAN and Mrs. Robert GRIMES sang with Mrs. Clarence KROGH at the piano.

Pallbearers were: Clarence and William KROGH, Grover SCROGGIN, John GLANCY, Evon SYKES, and J. P. JENSEN of the Masonic Lodge.

A Masonic service was held at the grave with Mr. Roy HUNTER of Superior in charge.

Interment in Spring Creek cemetery.

NOTE: Iva (JONES) HOPKIRK was born in Mount Ayr, Iowa, on January 23, 1878, the daughter of John Elliott and Laura Jane (HIGGINS) JONES. The JONES family moved to Nebraska in a covered wagon in 1880. Iva was working in the post officer where she met her future husband, Frank HOPKIRK. Iva moved to California around the year of 1950 to help her recently widowed daughter, Harriet raise her four young children. Iva died in Santa Clara, California on September 23, 1969.
