OBITUARY - DONALD MAX RICHMOND
October 23, 1924 - October 28, 2010

Donald Max RICHMOND, 86, of Independence, MO died Thursday, October 28, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.

He was born in Delphos, Iowa on October 23, 1924, the son of James & Florence RICHMOND. He grew up in Mount Ayr, Iowa and graduated from Mount Ayr High School. Don was a proud army veteran, serving in Europe, during World War II.

In September of 1946, he married Mary Kathryn SPENCER. After being honorably discharged, he attended and graduated from Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in 1949.

He taught and was a school administrator in northwest Missouri from 1949 to 1964. During this time, he received his master's degree from Kansas City University and did graduate work at the University of Kansas.

In 1964, he moved to Kansas City becoming business manager of the Center School District. While employed at the Center District, he held the positions of Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent, retiring in 1980.

During their retirement, Don & Kathryn split their time between Texas, Florida, and the Ozarks. Don enjoyed playing cards at the VFW, golf, and fishing. In 2006, they returned to the Kansas City area.

Don was past president of the South Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and past President of Jackson County School Administrators. He served on numerous boards and received many awards during his career in education.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathryn; a son. John Richmond & Mary of South Sioux City, NE; twp daughters, Donna RICHMOND of Madison, Mississippi and Susan & Bob DUVENICK of Lee's Summit, MO; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one brother Phillip & Joyce RICHMOND.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister Patricia JEFFERSON.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 1, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr. Interment was made a Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.

Memorials are to the Ringgold Post #172, American Legion, in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
