OBITUARY - MRS. FANNIE A. GOODELL

Mrs. Fannie A. GOODELL died at her home in Wirt [present-day Ellston], in this [Ringgold] county, Oct. 20, 1893, of progressive paralysis. The funeral services were held in the United Presbyterian church at Wirt, and were conducted by Pastor S. F. CLARK on the morning of the 21st. Interment took place at Rose Hill cemetery, Mt. Ayr.

Mrs. GOODELL'S maiden name was Fannie A. BUNKER. She was born in Canada, July 4, 1831. In her early youth her family moved to Hardin county, Ohio. Jan. 8, 1851 she was married to Abner GOODELL. They came to Ringgold county, Oct. 5, 1856, and settled upon the farm where they lived till Mr. GOODELL'S death, which occurred Jan. 4, 1890. He died of progressive paralysis, the same disease of which she did.

At the time of his death she showed some symptoms of the disease, which slowly progressed, until in about two years she was rendered almost helpless. For more than a year past she has not been able to do anything for herself but with a little assistance she could move about. All this time she bore her afffliction without a word of complaint, wishing her family not to trouble themselves for her sake.

Mrs. GOODELL was the mother of ten children, seven sons and three daughters. Four of the sons and one daughter died in early youth. The living are Eliphaz, Grace (Mrs. SMITH), George, Edmund and Dora (Mrs. BRUCE). In addition to these there are two brothers present at the funeral, and a sister from Illinois, arrived shortly after the funeral procession left Wirt.

About 15 years ago she united with the Presbyterian church of High Point, to which her husband belonged. At the organization of the United Presbyterian church of Wirt, she transferred her membership there, and in this relation she died. She was not able to attend church, not able even so that one not familiar withher could understand her, but the ever present smile on meeting one was evidence of inward peace and rest of soul.

During her sickness Mrs. SMITH had the principal care of her and with faithful devotion she looked after her mother's comfort. Mrs. GOODELL was ever willing when able, to wait upon the sick, patient under aflliction, professed her trust in her Lord, and when death came she peacefully sank to rest.
