JOE REISER WAS EARLY SETTLER HERE

Joe REISER, 84, who died at the Lynch Hospital Oct. 5 [1952], was one of Holt County's early settlers, coming here in 1885. Since 1891, however, he had lived on a farm four miles southeast of Butte. Funeral services and burial were in Spencer [NE] Wednesday of last week, and were attended by many relatives and friends from this community.

Joseph Sebastian REISER was born to Nicholas and Susan REISER on May 23, 1868 and died Oct. 5, 1952 at the age of 84 years, 5 months and 12 days. Joe, as he was known by all, had been in failing health since he suffered a heart attack May 12. He was taken to the Lynch Hospital May 24, where he remained several weeks and again on Sept 26 was taken to the hospital, where he remained until his death.

In 1885 he came with his family to Holt Co. [NE] where they took a claim on the Niobrara River south of Butte. Mr. REISER and a brother were caught in the famous Blizzard of 1888 while hauling hogs to market in Atkinson, and were fortunate in finding refuge in a ranch home. In 1891 he went to Boyd Co. and homesteaded four miles southeast of Butte, where he lived the remainder of his life.

On Jan. 27 ,1892 he was united in marriage to Mary MLINAR of Atkinson. Four children were born to them. One son, Roy, died at the age of four years, a daughter, Clara COUNTS, died Jan 2, 1949, and his wife preceded him in death on Dec. 16, 1950.

Mr. REISER was one of a family of eleven children, all but one of whom preceded him in death. The surviving member of the family is Ben REISER who lives near the Niobrara River in Holt Co.

Survivors who mourn his death include two sons, Dan and Earl of Spencer, four grandchildren, Raymond COUNTS of Lynch, Mrs. Evelyn McNAIR and Mrs. Elaine KLASNA, both of Spencer, Richard COUNTS of Woodland, Cal., seven great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
