OBITUARY - DAVID HILL

CRESTON IA -- David passed away on a warm Sunday morning, the victim of congestive heart failure, in his 92nd year. Until last week he lived his life with good spirit and good humor, enjoying his friends at Creston Nursing and Rehab, Trinity Lutheran Church, and Quiet Harbor Estates.

His family plans a visitation on Monday, July 16, from 2-8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston, Iowa. Funeral services are Tuesday, July 17, at 10:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, where David was a longtime member, with burial at the Tingley Cemetery. The family recommends memorials to his church or to Greater Regional Hospice. Online condolences may be made at www.powersfh.com under the obituary category.

Despite his depression-era youth, a life of hard work, challenges, losses, and the frailties of old age, David maintained his cheerfulness, his faith in the grace of God, and his love for his children, family, and friends. He loved nature, was a steward of the land, and was honest and true to his word. He enjoyed life, a good joke, and made living seem easy; in the end he died peacefully with dignity.

He was born in rural Ellston, Iowa, and grew up in Tingley, Iowa. He started working with his dad as a young boy helping him load his dray. He graduated from Tingley High School in 1933, was married to two wonderful women, fathered four children, and worked hard all of his life as a truck driver, farmer, and as a salesman for M & M motors until he was 84-years-old.

David never wrote a book or became famous, but as a husband, father, grandfather, and friend he was he best. His memorials are his descendants.

David now joins his parents, Charles and Elsie HILL, his first wife, Vinetta (1915-1975), granddaughter Teresa (1962-1976), brother, and sisters in Heaven.

He leaves behind wife Elsa, son Richard HILL (wife, Cynthia), Lebanon, Indiana; daughters Patricia O'LOUGHLIN (husband, Don), Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Betty PUMADORE (husband, Harry), Denton, Texas; Linda FOLTZ (husband, Lee), Waukee, Iowa; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. All his survivors are grateful for the life he lived.
