1944OBITUARY - ARB LEO BENSON.
Arb BENSON, 70, life long resident of the Diagonal community, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon about 3:00 o'clock at his home here. Mr. BENSON had been seriously ill for several weeks but became suddenly worse only a short time before his death. For a great many years he has suffered intensely from arthritis. Mr. BENSON was a familiar figure on the streets of Diagonal until his last illness. He had a great many friends and in spite of his condition he managed to have a cheerful greeting for all until ill health made it impossible for him to work. He was engaged in farming and was also employed on the County Bridge Crew.
Arb Leo BENSON, son of James and Melissa BENSON was born Aug. 12, 1874 and passed away Dec. 19, 1944 in Diagonal, Iowa at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 5 days. He was a lifelong resident of the Diagonal community where his kindly ways and helpful acts earned for him the friendship and respect of everyone with whom he came in contact. He was a daily visitor up town until the first day of October when he took sick and had to remain in the house until the day of his death.
He was united in marriage to Anna PERDUE Oct. 10, 1897. To this union were born four children: Neal Leonard BENSON and Avis Myrtle both of Diagonal, Wayne BENSON of Mt Ayr, Iowa and Theola of Areaha, Neb.
He leaves to mourn his faithful wife, her children, Neal, Avis, Wayne and Theola, nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren, four sisters and two brothers; Mrs. John GRAHAM and Mrs. Minnie WESTMORELAND of California, Mrs. Henry GRAHAM, Bill BENSON of Des Moines, Iowa and Abe BENSON of Treynon, Iowa. The Mrs. GRAHAMS each lived in Diagonal, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Christian Church with the Rev. W. C. PORTER Pastor of the Presbyterian Church in charge. Burial in the Diagonal Cemetery.
