OBITUARY - GLADYS MARIE SUMMERS

Gladys Marie SUMMERS, the daughter of the (sic) Josiah Homer and Anna (BLAUER) COOK, was born February 4, 1907, on a farm near Mt. Ayre (sic), Iowa. She entered into eternal rest on October 28, 1999, in Bosie City at the age of 92 years.

Gladys started to school in a little county school about four miles south of Tingley, Iowa. Gladys' mother's health was bad, so in 1915 the family moved to Oklahoma city, and later to Portales, New Mexico and back to Oklahoma City and to Cimarron County in 1917, Gladys, her mother and her sister Carolyn lived in Texhoma the school year of 1817-1918. In the spring of 1918, the moved to 160 acres which joins Bosie City on the Southwest. Gladys finished school in Bosie City, graduating with the class of 1925, from the Cimarron County High School. After graduation, Gladys took a business course, she later worked in the post office, under Postmaster Frank HALL. Later, Gladys worked at the Johnson Motor Company (Ford Garage). Gladys was elected City Treasurer of Boise City. Gladys was working for the Oklahoma State Extension Department, under Mr. Bill BAKER. When (sic) Gladys met Roy on a bland date.

Gladys Cook and Roy Summers were united in marriage to on (sic) February 14, 1935. Roy and Gladys moved to a farm east of Felt after marrying. To this union were born five children, Robert, Charles, Lee, John, and Annabelle. The family lived in the Felt community until 1952, when they moved to a farm northwest of Gentry, Arkansas. This is where they farmed and had a herd of dairy cows. Later, they also had a milk route.

While living in Gentry, the entire family joined the First Baptist Church. Later, Gladys and Roy transferred their membership to the First Christian Church, in Boise City, Oklahoma.

In 1960, the family returned to Cimarron County, where they made their home ever since. After returning to Boise City, Gladys worked in Coly's store and later for Palmer's Variety Store, before retiring in January 1972.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in June of 1989, her parents, Josiah and Anna COOK, two brothers, Clarence COOK and Glenn COOK, and one sister, Carolyn MARTIN.

Survivors include four sons, Robert SUMMERS and wife Jeanie, Texline, Tex., Chuck SUMMERS, Bosie City, Lee SUMMERS and wife Susie, Siloam Springs, Ark., and John SUMMERS and wife Lou, Lamar, Colo.; one daughter, Annabelle KING and husband Fran, Boise City, 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and three great great granchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Gravesite services were Saturday, October 30, 1999 at 2:30 p.m. at the Boise City Cemetery with David PETERSON officiating. Interment was in the Boise City Cemetery. The family suggested memorials to donor's choice. Memorials may be left in care of Cimarron Mortuary, which was in charge of arrangements.
