MOUNT AYR BUSINESS MAN PASSES AWAY

W. A. SIMPSON, Business Man for Forty Years, Dies at His Home in Mount Ayr

The death of William A. SIMPSON brings to this community the loss of an old citizen and pioneer business man. Mr. SIMPSON has been a victim of asthmatic illness for several years and directly before his death had been suffering acutely at home for several days. His condition was apparently improved the night before his death, so the end held some measure of shock to his family.

Mr. SIMPSON's business career in Mount Ayr has numbered forty years, during which time his department store has had two locations, one on the south side of the square, where the Princess Theatre now stands, and his present location on the east side.

The family's many friends extend their sympathy to Mrs. SIMPSON and daughter, Mrs. Marie Ida FOWLER, of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Funeral services were held at the Rhoades' Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at three o'clock, conducted by Rev. E. S. MENOHER, pastor of the local Methodist church, and interment made in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Relatives from out-of-town attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. C. E. HURST, Mr. and Mrs. Julian HARRIS, John HARRIS, Elmer HARRIS, of Leon; Mrs. Irene RICHARDSON of Richmond, Va.; Mr. and Mrs. M. A. POTTORFF, Mr. and Mrs. Robt. WILSON of Hatfield, Mo.

The obituary of Mr. SIMPSON follows:

William A. SIMPSON was born April 9, 1866, at Torrington Marsh, England, and passed away at his home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, September 18, 1931.

He came to this country in 1872 at the age of seven years and settled with his parents in Mount Ayr, which has since been his home except one year when he was in business in Leon.

He united with the Methodist church in Mount Ayr in 1885.

He was married to Fannie B. HEBENER September 24, 1890, and went in to business in Mount Ayr the same year. To this union were born two children, Charles Albert, who passed away January 19, 1923, and Mrs. Marie Ida FOWLER of Cincinnati, Ohio, who with the faithful wife are left to mourn his passing.

He is survived by one brother, Dr. G. W. SIMPSON of Salina, Kan., and one sister, Mrs. M. A. POTTORFF of Ringgold, Iowa.
