RAY SHAFER LAST RITES HELD JANUARY 29

Funeral services for Ray M. SHAFER, 84, of Bedford, held January 29, at Shum-Novinger Funeral Home here, were conducted by Carl CUMMINGS. Mr. SHAFER died at his home in Bedford January 27, 1974. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Blockton.

Ray Martin SHAFER, son of Watson SHAFER and Martha Elizabeth (WAUGH) SHAFER, was born April 5, 1889, near Redding in Ringgold County, Iowa. He lived his entire life time in Ringgold and Taylor Counties.

In 1909 he was united in marriage to Mary DEFENBAUGH and to them two children were born, a daughter, Lois, and a son, Archie.

In 1930 he was united in marriage to Grace SHEARER who died in 1951.

In 1954 he was united in marriage Maude REED who died November 17, 1969.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother.

Left to cherish his memory are the daughter, Lois STEPHENS, of Blockton; son, Archie SHAFER, of Denver, Colo.; three grandchildren, Robert STEPHENS, Mary DREIER and Jack SHAFER; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Eunice NORRIS of Mt. Ayr, and Mabel MOTSINGER of Grant City, Mo.; other relatives and many friends.

He was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church and attended as long as his health permitted.

Ray was a kind and considerate father, grandfather, brother, friend and neighbor, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
