OBITUARY.

Mary E. NEWMAN was born in Jefferson county, Wisconsin, July 31st, 1851, and died at her home in Mt. Ayr, Iowa, August 6th, 1886.

She was married to Levi NEWMAN at Viroqua, Vernon county, Wis. in 1874. In 1875 she came with her family to Iowa. She was left an orphan at the age of eleven years. She promised her mother on her dying bed to meet her in heaven, and from that time to the day of her death she never lost sight of the cross in her daily prayer, and joined the M. E. church in 1863. She was a sincere, true-hearted and sympathetic christian and had unabating love for her family. She bore with patience the burdens incident to a mothers life. Her last months were full of painful afflictions but all her suffering she bore with meekness and christian fortitude.

The day before her death, she was asked by her pastor if all was well and if she was thankful that the question of her salvation had long ago been settled. In reply, she said, "Yes! yes! Oh yes! Oh Lord how thankful I am!"

Can we not hear the savior saying to her "Well done, thou good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joys of thy Lord."

She leaves an afflicted husband, four children and four step-children who so so (sic) keenly feel their loss. Yet their loss is her gain.

Funeral services were conducted by Bro. WOOD and Bro. ANDREWS in the M. E. church.
