OBITUARY - R. DELIGHT "DEE" (OLMSTEAD) ARENDS PEDERSEN
R. Delight “Dee” PEDERSEN was born on September 4, 1922, to Oscar and Gertrude (HOUGLAND) OLMSTEAD in Hurley, South Dakota. She was raised in the Hurley community where she attended school. She passed away at Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, on April 1, 2007, at the age of 84.
She was united in marriage to James B. ARENDS on December 30, 1943, in Hurley. To this union a daughter, Ruth Ann, was born. Dee showed her love of the elderly working as a nurse aide in several South Dakota communities throughout their marriage. After nearly 28 years of marriage, Jimmy passed away on December 6, 1971.
On February 1, 1974, Dee was united in marriage to Lauritz E. PEDERSEN in Winner, South Dakota. “Pete” brought four sons to this union: Marlin, Dwain, Dwite, and Clio. They lived in Winner until moving to Mount Ayr, Iowa, in August of 2001. Pete preceded her in death on March 3, 2003.
Dee took great pride in her home and enjoyed cooking, and entertaining and visiting with family, friends, and guests. She enjoyed collecting aprons, and handkerchiefs. She was active in PEO and a member of the United Methodist Church of Winner.
Dee is survived by her daughter: Ruth Ann McDONNELL (Randy) of Mount Ayr, IA; four step-sons: Marlin (Sharon) of Gregory, SD, Dwain (Sheila) and Dwite (Poe) all of Omaha, NE and Clio (Ethel) of Polkville, NC; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister: Audry WINTERFIELD of Whittier, CA; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and one sister Helen DeNEUI.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 7, 2007, Harmony Presbyterian Church, Parker, South Dakota.
