Donald LINK, son of William Corwin & Edith Gertrude (WALTER) LINK was born September 1, 1924 near Clearfield, Iowa, and departed for Glory on April 26, 2007.
Donald attended rural schools in Ringgold county and eighth grade through high school at Shannon City. Don graduated from Shannon City High School with the class of 1942. He moved to Des Moines and enlisted in the Army Infantry in 1945 and served his country in the the Philippines and Japan until 1947.
Donald married Lorraine CUNNINGHAM in 1947 and they had two daughters, Linda (who was killed in a car accident at the age of five) and Margo Elaine SANCHEZ who lives in El Cajon, California, and a son, Donald Bruce of Jamul, California.
Donald remarried on October 15, 1957 to Lola B. (TRIGGS) SHELDON at Denver, CO, and Tamara Kay was born to them on March 1, 1962, but passed away on March 3, 1962.
Donald accepted Christ as his Savior in 1966 and served many areas of ministry. His great desire was to follow the Scriptures in serving the widows and orphans by spending many hours in servicing applainances, general maintenance/mechanical issues and delivering fruits and vegetables to the needy. He also served as usher and on many committees and sang in the choir.
Donald and his family lived in Denver from 1957 - 1965, then owned and operated a resort in Walker, Minnesota until 1972; after which they relocated in Denver until 1975, then moved to Sun City, Arizona where he retired from Bechtel Corp. in 1987. He moved to Polson, Montana at that time and relocated in Rapid City, South Dakota in 1995 where he lived for 18 years until his passing.
Donald passed away on April 26, 2007 at the home of his sister-in-law, Lois TRIGGS, in Mount Ayr, Iowa due to complications from cancer.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; 2 daughters Linda LINK and Tamara Kay LINK; four brothers Arlo, Franklin, Robert and Merritt LINK; a sister Ruth KEPLEY; sisters-in-law, Josephine LINK, Mickey LINK, Blanche TRIGGS and Nadine TRIGGS; brothers-in-law, Stanley KEPLEY, Leo TRIGGS and Ainslee TRIGGS.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 49 years, Lola of Rapid City, S.D.; 2 children Margo (LINK) SANCHEZ of El Cajon, CA and Donald Bruce LINK of Jamul, CA; 2 step-sons Danny SHELDON & wife Shirley of Eden Prairie, MN and Lanny SHELDON of Sun City, AZ; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; a sister Merrie KEPLEY & husband Dave of Ames, IA; sisters-in-law Marie LINK of Creston, IA and Lois TRIGGS of Mount Ayr; brother-in-law Eldon TRIGGS of Evansville, IN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 28, 2007 from Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr, Iowa, with Rev. Charles HAWKINS officiating.
Casket bearers were Perry LEWIS, Ray STRADINGER, Don FOLEY, Gene ADDINK, Ed HUBIN and Jim ROHDE.
Honorary pallbearers were Eldon TRIGGS, Merritt TRIGGS, bob SCHAFER, Ken MARTIN, Bill STEINWANDT and John BUSZKO.
Military rites were conducted by American Legion Ringgold Post #172.
Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
