DEATH of THOMAS O. GROVES.

Thomas Oscar GROVE, son of Peter B. and Sarah Ann GROVES, was born May 17, 1864, in Marion county, Iowa and moved with is (sic) parents in 1869 to Mahaska county. In 1879 the family moved to Ringgold county and located near Kellerton, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. In 1890 they moved and located on the farm where the family has lived for over fifteen years. He passed away at the Missouri Methodist hospital at St. Joseph, Mo., June 5, 1928, age 64 years and 19 days.

He was united in marriage to Nancy Almeda ARGABRIGHT July 5, 1902. To this union were born ten children, six of whom have preceded him in death. Five died in infancy. Ira B.,age 22 years, died December 12, 1918, a shock from which the father never fully recovered.

He is survived by his loving wife; two sons, Carl E., at home; Ezra D. of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. P. E. MICHAEL, of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. P. J. ANDREWS, of Diagonal, Iowa, and two dear little grandchildren, Ira Norris GROVES and Dorothy Ann MICHAEL, besides a host of other relatives and friends. His father, mother, two brothers, W. U. and W. R., two sisters, Amelia and Cora have preceded him in death.

Mr. GROVES was a devoted husband and loving father. He was a good neighbor, a splendid citizen, who always stood for the best things in life. His word and integrity were always commendable and reliable. He was always of a home-like disposition, yet liked the association of his friends. He bore his recent illness which lasted for several months with patience and rearely complained. He was a firm believer in the Supreme Being and in his younger life was active in church work and a regular attendant. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and loved their companionship and fellowship.

"Peaceful be thy silent slumber
Peaceful in thy grave so low,
Tho' no more doth join our number,
Tho' no more our sorrow know.
Yet again we hope to meet thee,
When the day of life is fled,
And in heaven with joy to greet thee
Where no farewell tears are shed."

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Benton Thursday afternoon, conducted by T. S. RHOADES and burial at the Benton cemetery. Ritualistic services of the Odd Fellows lodge was conducted at the grave.

NOTE: Peter B. GROVES, father of Thomas Oscar, died at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 10 days on March 30, 1896, with interment at Benton Cemetery, Benton, Ringgold County, Iowa. Sarah A., mother of Thomas Oscar GROVES, died at the age of 67 years, 4 months and 19 days with interment at Benton Cemetery. William's siblings include Lewis S. (1856-1936); A. J. (1860-1929); William Udolpho (1862-1924); and E. H. (1872-1955). They were interred at Benton Cemetery. Nancy Almeda (ARGABRIGHT), wife of Thomas Oscar GROVES, was born in 1870 and died in 1937 with interment at Benton Cemetery. Carl E. GROVES, son of Thomas O. and Nancy Almeda (ARGABRIGHT), was born in 1893 and died in 1961, interment at Benton Cemetery. George A., son of Thomas O. and Nancy Almeda (ARGABRIGHT) died at the age of twelve days on February 12, 1895, interment at Benton Cemetery. Harry O. GROVES, son of Thomas O. and Nancy Almeda (ARGABRIGHT) died at the age of eight years, 2 months and 11 days on December 29, 1897, interment Benton Cemetery. Ira B. GROVES, son of Thomas O. and Nancy Almeda (ARGABRIGHT), was born in 1896 and died in 1918 (Spanish influenza epidemic?), interment Benton Cemetery. Thomas GROVES, son of Thomas O. and Nancy Almeda (ARGABRIGHT), died at the age of 5 days in 1914, interment Benton Cemetery. Also interred at Benton Cemetery is Infant son GROVES who died in 1890 and Elva GROVES who died at the age of five days on January 13, 1909.
