The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1925

GERTRUDE DEE GRIGG.

Gertrude Dee GRIGG, little daughter of George and Cleo Marie (LAIRD) GRIGG, was born in Mount Ayr, Iowa, March 28, 1923, at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. LAIRD, and there she always lived until death claimed her February 19, 1925, aged one year, ten months and twenty-two days.

Her mother preceded her in death just eleven days. The life of the darling baby was short and sweet. It seemed as though she had been sent to earth to take her mother home, but God in His mercy spared her a few days longer that her presence might somewhat comfort the sorrowing dear ones.

She was stricken on Monday, February 16, with that dread disease croup which rapidly developed into pneumonia. She bore her great suffering silently and patiently, this having been characterictic (sic) of her entire life. She seemed too pure for earth. Everything she came in contact with to her was either nice or pretty, and to every request made to her she invaribly responded, "All right." While the home had been deeply overshadowed with gloom, for over two years, owing to the great suffering of her dear mother, her sweet smile, gentle ways and loving heart often dispelled the gloom. Never having been tainted with sin or evil of this world, her passing has been merely a transfer from earth to God's garden. Her mother's desire that she "go with her" has been granted and today together they are basking in the sunlight of God's presence.

It is hard to give her up, our aching hearts have been sorely rent, yet we know God doeth all things well and some day, if we are but faithful to God, we will meet her again.

She leaves to mourn her loss a sorrowing father, who feels his all has been taken, her grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins and hosts of friends which her motherless condition and winsome ways have made.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Mount Ayr, conducted by Rev. Jay KIRKENDALL, February 21, 1925, and interment was in Rose Hill cemetery beside her mother.

"Keep her, blessed Jesus,
Our sacred treasure keep,
Till we, like happy Gertrude,
In death shall fall asleep."

Card of Thanks.

We wish to express our thanks for the many acts of sympathy and love extended to us by our neighbors and friends during the sickness and death of our dear little Gertrude and also to thank all for the many beautiful floral offerings. May the giver of every good and perfect gift reward all who tried to console us in this our double grief.

GEORGE D. GRIGG.
