OBITUARY.

John H. GILPIN was born in Springfield, Illinois, February 26, 1843. He enlisted in the army in 1861 and again in 1864 as a veteran [Company D of the 26th Illinois Volunteer Infantry]. He lived about twelve years in Worth county, Missouri, before coming to Mt. Ayr, which was about three years ago. His first wife having died, he married Miss Naomi Jane OSBORN Sep. 1, 1878. For a long time his health has been very poor and he has suffered much. His last illness lasted several weeks, being a complication of diseases involving the lungs. He was a member of the M.E. church and in his sickness declared his confidence in God as his Savior. His death occurred January 24th, 1890. The funeral service was held at the M. E. church by Rev. Wm. B. THOMPSON [with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa].
