DEATH of WM. FRANCIS.

Uncle William FRANCIS, one of the pioneer citizens of Ringgold county, died in Mt. Ayr January 9, 1893. He was about 83 years of age [born in 1812, North Carolina], and since 1857 has been a resident of this county. He moved to Mt. Ayr, from Noble county, Ohio and during his residence here has enjoyed the respect of the entire community. In his business dealings he was always honest and never was known to take advantage of his fellow man.

For a number of years he has been afflicted with palsy and the disease has made him a constant sufferer. His death, however was due as much to the infirmities of old age as to the destroying effects of the disease. For ten or fifteen years he was the janitor of the old court house and he is known to almost every old citizen in the county. He has been a life long republican and was always a strong supporter of the principles enunciated by that party. He cast his presidential vote for Wm. Henry HARRISON and voted again for his grandson in 1888. He was anxious to go to the polls last November, but his failing strength would not permit the exposure.
