OBITUARY - JOHN DUKES.

John DUKES, son of William and Mary Ann DUKES, was born in Hanfordshire, England, on June 4, 1842, and died at the Methodist hospital at Des Moines, Iowa, January 9, 1926.

He emigrated to this country and landed at Joliet, Illinois, in 1867 and on August 15, 1869, he was united in Marriage to Jane PRICE and they moved to Ringgold county in 1872 and lived on the old farm until 1906, when he retired to a smaller farm at Beaconsfield, Iowa, until 1920, when the farm activities ceased.

He was a loyal supporter of the M.E. church to which he united in 1884.

Those that are left to mourn his death are his wife and loyal companion of almost sixty years, five children - William, of Ohio; George of Rienbeck, Iowa; Edward, of Mobile, Ala.; John C., of Ellston; and Mary B. RUDE, of Stark, Ill.; one sister, of London, England; ten great (sic) grandchildren, one great granddaughter and his neighbors and friends.

We take this means of thanking the neighbors, friends and relatives for the expression of sorrow and assistance given at the death and burial of husband and father.

NOTE: John DUKES was interred at Oliver Cemetery near Ellston, Ringgold County, Iowa. Jane (PRICE) DUKES, wife of John, was born July 2, 1840, and died February 20, 1940.
