OBITUARY - JOSEPH CHARLES DILLE

Joseph Charles, son of Charles F. and Vernilla (CATING) DILLE, was born near Aroma, Kankakee county, Illinois, January 15, 1859, and died at the home in Waubonsie township near Benton, June 12, 1933, aged 74 years, four months and 28 days. He came when a child with his parents to Ringgold county, where, with the exception of two years spent in Colorado, he has spent most of his life. He was married February 18, 1882, to Fannie HUTCHINSON. Three children came to the home: Vanita, now Mrs. Floyd BUTLER, and C. M. DILLE, both of Benton, Iowa, and Virna, now Mrs. Roy SHELDEN, of Albert City, Iowa.

The wife and mother died August 9, 1902. Mr. DILLE united with the Christian church at Mount Ayr, Iowa, many years ago, and was a member of the of the Christian church at Benton at the time of his death.

He was a member of the I. O. O. F. Lodge since the early days of its organization, and also the Rebekah lodge. His happiest days were the summers he spent with this daughter near Storm Lake. His few leisure hours were spent in reading and playing his old violin.

The DILLE and FERTIG families were among the earliest settlers and have been lifelong friends. His life can be summed up by the few words: "By their fruits ye shall know them. For his children rise up and call him blessed."

He leaves to mourn his going, the three children, seven grandsons, and one little granddaughter, Marilyn; two brothers, Edward DILLE of Midwest, Wyo., and Dennis DILLE of Benton, Iowa; also Mrs. D. A. VAUGHN, who spent her childhood days inthe home after the death of her mother, and many others who will miss him.

Funeral services were held yesterday (Wednesday) forenoon at the Christian church in Benton, conducted by Rev. W. Harold SMITH, pastor of the Mount Ayr Christian church, assisted by T. S. RHOADES, and burial was in the Benton cemetery.

The beautiful funeral service of the I. O. O. F. lodge was conducted by members of the local lodge.

Bulwer LYTTON's poem, "There Is No Death," a favorite poem of the departed, was read at the service.

NOTE: Fannie A. (HUTCHINSON) DILLE, wife of Joseph Charles, was born in 1861 and died in 1902. Clarence M. DILLE, son of Joseph Charles and Fannie A. (HUTCHINSON) was born in 1886 and died in 1938 with interment at Benton Cemetery.
