DOUBLE FUNERAL for J. M. DAVIS AND GRANDCHILD

Double funeral services for James M. DAVIS, 85 years of age, and his year-old granddaughter, Delta Dean DAVIS, were held at Wishard Chapel on Saturday afternoon at one o'clock, conducted by Rev. E. S. MENOHER, pastor of the local Methodist church. The body of the infant was laid to rest in the Tingley cemetery Saturday afternoon and interment of the body of Mr. DAVIS was made Sunday morning in the Johnston cemetery [near Kellerton].

Following are the obituaries read at the funeral services:

James M. DAVIS

James M. DAVIS, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anderson DAVIS, was born in Meigs county, Ohio, November 6, 1846, and died at the home of his son, Frank DAVIS, in Liberty township, Thursday, February 4, at the age of 85 years, two months and four days.

At the age of eleven years, he moved with his parents to Scott county, Illinois, where he resided for 22 years. He was a member of the Methodist church at Canton, Ohio. He was a kind and loving father and was noted for his hospitality, kindness and sympathy for those in trouble. He was a good neighbor, honest and upright in his dealings with his fellowmen.

In December, 1868, he was united in marriage to Sarah Rebecca PORTER and to this union five children were born. Three children, Lora, Ira and Clinton, preceded him in death. He is survived by two sons, Charles Davis of Marian, Ill., and Frank, with whom he has made his home since the death of his wife December 26, 1926; and two grandsons, Melvin and Kenneth.

Mr. and Mrs. DAVIS established their home in Canton, Ohio, where they lived for 18 years. They then moved to Scott county, Illinois, until the year 1909, when they moved to Independence, Buchanan county, Iowa. In March, 1917, they moved to Liberty township.

Delta Dean DAVIS

On January 26, 1931, little Delta Dean DAVIS came to gladden the home of Frank and Celesta DAVIS. With the tender care of her parents she developed a sturdy and healthy body, but was unable to overcome a hard attack of whooping cough, with which she was stricken three weeks ago. Everything that human hands could do was done, but the Heavenly Father took her home to be with Him.

She passed away Thursday, February 4, [1932] at the home of her parents in Liberty township at the tender age of one year and eight years. Because they had been called upon five years previous to mourn the death of a daughter, Helen May, and a year later a son, Lloyd F., little Delta Dean was more than precious to her parents.
