Gregory Scott Sturtz, 45, of Midland, Texas, and formerly of Gilman, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2012, in a tragic car accident in Odessa, Texas.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m.,Friday, July 6, 2012, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, Iowa with interment at the Prairie View Cemetery near Gilman, Iowa.
A visitation will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at the Smith Funeral Home.
Greg was born on January 18, 1967, in Des Moines, Iowa to Vernon and Katherine Peak Sturtz. He graduated from SEMCO High School in Gilman and received an MBA degree from the University of Iowa. Later, he received a law degree from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Following his education he practiced law for a few years in Denver, Colorado and later started the Sturtz Construction Business. In 2011, he moved to Midland, Texas to be close to his mother, brother and family. He took a job in the oilfield with Fesco LTD, where he had the privilege of working daily with his nephews, Cole and Cade.
His passion for hockey was evident through the countless hours he spent coaching youth teams and playing on intramural teams while in Denver. His more recent days off were spent with his nieces and nephews grilling outside, watching sports and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his brother, Steve (Bridgett) Sturtz of San Angelo, Texas; special friend, Katrina Gustafson; his nieces, Caitlin Paige Sturtz and Saegan Jost; his nephews, Cole (Ami) Doss, Cade (Lauren) Doss, Jordan Jost and Edwin Jost.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
