Longtime Local Resident Dies
Funeral services Tuesday for Mrs. Wesley Baughman
Mrs. Wesley Baughman, a longtime resident of the Griswold community and daughter of a pioneer family, passed away Sunday morning of this week, July 29th. Mrs. Baughman passed away at the Atlantic hospital where she had been a patient since last Friday evening, having suffered an illness and taken to Atlantic by ambulance. Mrs. Wilena Baughman was born in Stark County, Illinois, on September 6, 1878, being a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Murchison, early settlers in the Griswold community. At Mrs. Baughman’s passing she had reached the age of 77 years, 10 months and 23 days. Mrs. Baughman came to the Griswold locality with her parents at a very early age and the family settled in Waveland Township. Here Mrs. Baughman grew to womanhood and was graduated from the old Griswold Academy. On November 30, 1904, she was united in marriage to Wesley Baughman of Griswold. The marriage took place in Waveland Township and was solemnized by Rev. C. J. Sonnema. Mr. and Mrs. Baughman have since their marriage resided in the Griswold community and farmed until a few years ago when they moved into this city. They became parents of two children, a son and a daughter. Mrs. Baughman was a member of the Presbyterian church of this city, holding membership for many years. She also was a member of America Chapter Order of Eastern Star, the Tuesday Music Club and Friendly Neighbor Club.
Left to mourn the passing of Mrs. Baughman are the husband and one daughter, Mrs. Leo Cochran of Marne. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Clem Hall of Griswold; and a brother, Dr. Kenneth Murchison of Sidney; in addition to numerous other relatives and a host of friends. Mrs. Baughman was preceded in death by a son, Gressley, who died some three years ago. Funeral services were held in Griswold this Tuesday afternoon and largely attended by relatives, friends and neighbors. The services were held from the Wagler Funeral Home. Officiating was Rev.Richard P. Chambers, pastor of the Red Oak Presbyterian church. The music was by Mr. and Mrs. Ed Hamilton, accompanied by Mrs. Evald Stone. The casket bearers were: Ira Potter, Darrell Cary, Alex Milne, Sam Hemsted, Merrill Mayberry and Pat Castleberry. Interment was made on the Griswold Cemetery.
