N. Darleene Armstrong, age 86, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of Des Moines, died Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington following a lengthy illness.
Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2012 at the United Presbyterian Church Chapel with Rev. Monte Asbury officiating. Visitation will begin 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. Sunday. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa with Alan Chandler officiating. Darleene was born, November 15, 1925 in rural Dallas County the daughter of Lewis T. and Izetta Faye (Gottschalk) Job. She graduated from Woodside High School north of Des Moines, Iowa. On August 12, 1946, Darleene was united in marriage to Rex Elwood Armstrong in Des Moines, Iowa.
Darleene grew up in rural Des Moines, Iowa and has lived in Texas, Maine, North Carolina, India, Brazil, and Argentina prior to moving to Washington, Iowa in 2003. She was a homemaker. She attended New Oaks Nazarene Church in Washington, Iowa and was active at Pastor Herb Sebree's Free United Methodist Church in Urbandale, Iowa. Darleene enjoyed ceramics, china painting, embroidery, was an accomplished seamstress, and was a serious Bridge player.
She is survived by her husband Rex Armstrong of Washington, Iowa; daughter Sharon I. Armstrong of Washington, Iowa; three granddaughters, Monica May King, Darla Faye King, and Sara Rae Mertens; two great granddaughters, Audrey Claire and Kayla Rae Mertens.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard Job.
