Edward Augustine "Lalo" Rivera passed away Friday November 25, 2011 at the John Stoddard Cancer Center after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family including the love of his life for 59 years.
Ed was born to Sebastian and Andrea Rivera in Des Moines Iowa on August 28th, 1932. A life long Southside resident, Ed spent his life as a father of nine children, a Korean War Veteran, and retired from Armstrong Tire Company after 35 years of service. Ed enjoyed gardening, traveling, walking to B&B grocery, and the Hawkeyes. Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife Phyllis, his children Rick (Becky) Rivera, Leisa (Ron) Curtis, Audrey Garrison, Kimberley (Chad) Cole, Andrea (Roger) Murray, Eddie Rivera, Carla (Phil) Pickering, and Donna (Tim) Sindlinger; 24 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; five sisters and three brothers. He is preceded in death by a son, a grandson, three sisters and one brother.
Visitations will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 29 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday November 30, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery with Military Honors.
