Daryl A. Neumann, 67, passed away peacefully at his home Monday, November 28, 2011. He will be cremated and a visitation will be 5 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, December 1 with a Vigil service at 7:30 p.m., at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, 510 E. 1st St., Ankeny. A Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 2, 2011 at the church
Daryl was born October 14, 1944 to Donald and Ella Neumann in Oelwein, Iowa. He graduated from Elkader Central High School in 1963 and then graduated from The American Institute of Business. Daryl was a trusted advisor to Bill Knapp for 40 years serving as Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer of Iowa Realty from 1972 to 1992 and then Knapp Properties for the next 20 years, most recently as a member of the Knapp Properties Board of Directors. Daryl served in the United States Army National Guard, was an avid outdoorsman, and was passionate about Johnston Little League where he dedicated many years coaching and volunteering his time. Daryl loved spending his free time being outdoors with family and friends golfing, fishing, mushroom hunting, yard work and splitting wood. He also enjoyed going to his grandkids' sporting events.
Survivors include his wife, Denise Neumann of Ankeny; sons, Curtis (Susan Stitzell) Neumann of Johnston and Todd (Jodi) Neumann of Johnston; step-sons, Ryan (Tara) Broich of Clive, and Ben Broich of Ankeny; grandchildren, Tyler, Nick and Rachel Neumann, Nick Stitzell, and Dylan and Jackson Broich; mother, Ella Neumann; sister, Diane Stahle of Solon; and brother, Dale (Sharon) Neumann of Traverse City, MI, mother- in-law Dolores Snyder and many other nieces, nephews family and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Don Neumann, brother-in-law, Sam Stahle and father-in-law, Norbert Snyder.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Lung Association or Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
