Junice E. Baker, 90, a Des Moines area resident for over 40 years and co-owner of Baker's Cafeteria with her husband Merle, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2011 in Mesa, AZ. She was born October 29, 1921 to Ed and Alice Kelly of Madelia, MN. After many years of raising children and working at the Cafeteria, she retired to her new found love, Bridge! She became an avid player and eventually held the honor of a Life Master. She retired to Mesa, AZ and lived there the past 20 years. Junice was a member of PEO, Eastern Star, and several Church organizations.
She is survived by her four children: Larry (Carolyn) of McCormick, South Carolina, Russel (Vicki) of West Des Moines, Ed of Naples, FL, and Karen of Prescott, AZ, nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, four brothers: Arlo, Ellsworth, Richard and Robert Kelly. She was preceded in death by her husband Merle, her parents and a sister Catherine Thorson.
A memorial service was held December 17, 2011 in Mesa, AZ for many friends and family living in that area. A memorial service and burial will be held in West Des Moines later in the Spring of 2012. Memorial contributions may be made to PEO International.
