Sister Miriam Clare Miller, CHM, 93, died Saturday, December 10 at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston, IA. Services at Bishop Drumm Our Lady of Peace Chapel are Tuesday, December 13: Rosary at 4 p.m.; Vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation at Reece Funeral Home, Ottumwa, is December 14 at 6 p.m., Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass is Thursday, December 15, 11 a.m., at St. Mary of the Visitation Church. Burial follows in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Ottumwa.
Catherine Lucille Miller was born May 19, 1918 to Joseph (Harry) and Mary (Mae) Kouba Miller in Prescott, IA. On July 3, 1935 she entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, professing vows on July 17, 1938. She received an AA degree from Ottumwa Heights College and a BA from Marycrest College in Davenport. Completing her RN in 1946, she began her life-long ministry in health care at St. Joseph Hospital, later Ottumwa Regional Hospital, specializing in pediatrics. She was director of nurses from 1973-1987, and active in numerous civic groups and professional societies.
In 1995 she retired; in 2006 she moved to Bishop Drumm Retirement Center where she resided until her death.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Clara Stallings Miller, brothers Paul, Leo and Joe Miller and Robert Stallings. She is survived by her sister Irene, numerous nieces and nephews, Sisters and Associates of her CHM community.
Memorials may be made to Prevent Child Abuse Iowa or the Congregation of the Humility of Mary.
