Charles Eilbert, 92, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Kansas City Hospice. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street with burial following at Avon Cemetery. A visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Saturday.
Charles was born December 6, 1919 in Des Moines to Karl and Grace Eilbert. After graduating from Lincoln High School, Charles enlisted in the US Army. He proudly served his country at the Battle of the Bulge and Battle of Ardennes. He earned the Bronze Star and was personally awarded the Purple Heart from General Patton.
On November 19, 1939 Charles married Susan Sterrett. This union was blessed with three children, Gary, Diane, and Richard. During his younger years, Charles enjoyed hunting and fishing. He collected guns, antiques and later in life enjoyed restoring antique lamps.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Susan; children, Diane Griggs, Gary Eilbert; daughter-in-law, Toni Eilbert; four grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and brother, Karl Eilbert, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Richard Eilbert; grandson, Gary David Eilbert; and sister, June Hitz.
