Gene Cushman, 91, died suddenly of a heart attack in Mesa on June 26. An informal gathering to honor Gene will be held in Des Moines at a later date.
He was to Lee Roy and Beulah (Bird) Cushman on October 7, 1920 in Des Moines. Most of his life was spent in the area until he moved to Mesa in 1993.
He married Evelyn Mauch in 1944. They had seven children, six of whom survive. They were divorced in 1976 and he later married Victorene Schwarz.
He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and served in the Army from 1942-1946. He served as a recruiter and in the Army Air Corps. He had many occupations in his life - construction worker, bus driver, teacher of adult students, Volkswagen dealership owner and insurance professional.
He is survived by daughters Gae of Mesa, Jan Gensch of Slater, Lyn Samuelson of Placerville, CO, Kim and Lee Vanderlinden of Des Moines, and son Val of Ogden.
