Richard Irwin "Dick" Cross was born May 30, 1935 in Des Moines, IA to Charles Edgar Cross and Rose May Elliott. He died at Mercy Hospital on July 1, 2012. He lived in Des Moines all of his life. On December 19, 1954 he married Marilyn Joan Bitcon in Greenfield, IA.
He was a member of Teamsters Local 147, and worked for Brady Motorfreight, Smith Transfer, and retired from All American in 1990. He loved Hawkeye basketball and golf. After retirement he established Cross Club Repair, where he built and repaired golf clubs until his health forced him to retire completely.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years and four sons; Richard L. (Deena) Cross of West Des Moines; Harold E. Cross; Philip J. Cross, both of Des Moines; and Tracy A. (Michelle) Cross, of Altoona.
He is also survived by two sisters, Lois Naples and Virginia Pressley both of Des Moines. In addition, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and six brothers Fletcher, Philip, Thomas, Edgar, Charles, and David Cross; and three sisters Gladys Lowe, Ruby Calkins, and Rosemarie Rounds.
