Simpson, Luella Jeane Smith - 1913-2012

Luella Jeane Smith Simpson, 98, formerly of Des Moines, IA, died on September 25, 2012 at Sears Manor Nursing Home in Brunswick, GA. In order to help others, Luella donated her body to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
Born November 14, 1913 in Hagerman, New Mexico to John William and Mary India Dunn Smith, Luella was raised in Hydro, Oklahoma. After graduating from Hydro High School in 1931, she furthered her education and graduated from Anadarko Business College in Oklahoma. Soon after, she met and married her husband of 43 years, George William Simpson. They moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she worked as an accountant for South Iowa Methodist Homes for 20 years. She and George owned and operated Simpson's Stables and boarded horses for many years. Luella was of the Methodist Faith and was preceded in death by her husband, George Simpson, their son, Donald R. Simpson, three sisters, Iris Ivins, Virginia Bird, and Marguerite Stewart, and a brother, Warren Smith.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Lila Simpson, of Brunswick, a grandson, Donald R. Simpson, II, and wife Marcia, a great-grandson, Trey Simpson, all of St. Simons Island, and a step great-granddaughter, Stacy Geyer and husband, Bernhardt, of Louisville, KY.
Luella was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 21, at 3 p.m. at Frederica Baptist Church to celebrate her life. Memorial contributions may be sent in honor of Luella Simpson to Frederica Baptist Church Building Fund, 1700 Frederica Rd., Suite 3, St. Simons Island, GA 31522.
