Allan Pieper, 79, died Thursday, October 4, 2012, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 11, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, of which he was a member for 49 years. Burial will be held at McDivitt Grove Cemetery in Urbandale at a later date.
Allan was born February 28, 1933 in Dodge, NE, to Joseph and Mary Pieper, where he was raised and graduated from Dodge High School. He entered the US Army in 1953 and later continued his education at the University of Nebraska where he received his degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation he moved to the Des Moines area where he met Judy Coulter. They married in May of 1963 and made their home in Urbandale where they raised their three children.
Allan spent his career working in information technology. He worked at Banker's Life, Massey Ferguson, State of Iowa, and CDS Global where he retired in 1996.
Allan enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He liked playing cards, Sudoku puzzles, golf, and following Nebraska Cornhusker sports. Allan enjoyed his involvement with St. Pius X especially the time he spent on the Arts and Environments Committee.
Allan is survived by his wife of 49 years, Judy; his children, Chris (wife, Cheryl, and their children, Olivia and Owen of Houston, TX), Greg (his children, Grant and Calvin, of Waukee) and Melissa Easter (husband, Lon, and their children, Sam, Kate, and Matt, of Johnston); his brother, Art (wife, Janice of Lafayette, IN), and his two sisters, Imelda Pieper of Dodge, NE, and Imogene Schlickbernd (husband, Henry of West Point, NE). He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel where a vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org). Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
