Kenneth E. Lindstrom, 81, passed away on September 9, 2012. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later date.
Ken was born to Elvin and Lottie Lindstrom and was raised in Laurens, Iowa. When he was 17 years old he joined the US Navy. After completing three years of service he attended electronics school in Chicago, IL and later accepted a position with IBM. Working in Ottumwa, Iowa he met his future bride, Sally Fresh. After their marriage in 1955, and then the birth of two children, he was transferred to Des Moines. He retired from IBM after 33 years of service.
Ken loved to play cards and enjoyed fishing, golfing and woodworking. He had coached Tim's Little League baseball teams and loved going to his grandson, Max's, baseball games in recent years. Ken was known to family, friends and the neighborhood as "Mr. Handyman".
Ken is survived by his wife, Sally; daughter, Terri (Paul) Tripp; son, Timothy Lindstrom; grandchildren Amanda (Matthew) DeSilvey, Joshua Tripp, Rachel Lindstrom and Max Lindstrom; and a great-grandson, Mason Lindstrom.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Westover Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hope Ministries, 1310 6th Avenue, Des Moines, IA. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
