David Livingston Knauer, 81, of Des Moines, IA died October 1, 2012 at Scottish Rite Park in Des Moines.
David was born January 28, 1931 to Harry L. and Lottie (Kaufman) Knauer in Gallatin, MO.
David married Juanita Louise Croy on September 4, 1960 at the First Baptist Church in Gallatin.
David was a graduate of Northwest Missouri State and Iowa State University. He was a member of several Masonic organizations, including ZaGaZig Shrine of Des Moines.
He worked for General Motors in Kansas City and the General Accounting Company of Gallatin & Columbia, MO before moving to Ottumwa, IA in 1963 and starting with the organization that was to become Indian Hills Community College. At his retirement in 1995, David was Executive Vice President and Board Secretary for Indian Hills.
David was also an active and engaged husband and father, ensuring his daughters knew how to play football and baseball. He nurtured their feminine side by building them go-carts, stilts and hockey sticks.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, his parents and one brother, Charles.
David is survived by his daughters, Kerry Bruning (Doug) of Dallas Center, IA and Marty Knauer of Trempealeau, WI, his older brother John Knauer of Des Moines and two granddaughters, Hailey and Kenzie Parcel.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 5, at Robertson-Jay Funeral Home in Ottumwa, IA. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 6.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in David's memory to the Indian Hills Foundation, Indian Hills Community College, 525 Grandview, Ottumwa, IA 52501.
