MSgt. Seymoure E. Gray Jr. of Des Moines passed away at the age of 75, peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family and friends on October 2, 2012.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Memorial Services of Iowa funeral home (4208 N. Ankeny Blvd.). A visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, October 5, also at the funeral home.
Seymoure was born on the 5th day of December 1936, in Lacona, Iowa to Seymoure Sr. and Martha Gray (Tickle). He lived in Chariton where he graduated from Chariton Community High School. After high school Seymoure joined the United States Marine Corps. He served his country with honors for three tours in the Vietnam War as an infantry platoon Sergeant. He retired from the Marines after 30 years of service. After retirement Seymoure spent 23 years working for Mercy Medical Center as an Instrument Technician. While Seymoure was working for Mercy Medical Center he met the love of his life, Bonnie K. Jackson. After courting for two years Seymoure asked for Bonnie's hand in marriage. On July 26, 1987 Seymoure and Bonnie were united in marriage. Seymoure was a kind man which always put family first. He enjoyed picnics, family gatherings, and playing with his lifelong friend and pet Annie. Seymoure was witty and always full of jokes. He enjoyed life and always had a positive outlook in any situation.
Survivors for Seymoure are his wife, Bonnie Gray, of Des Moines, IA, his daughters; Glenda Nicolaisen, of Chariton, IA, Sherry Shutt, of Grand Junction, IA, Barbara Williams, of Des Moines, IA, Brenda Carter, of Des Moines, IA, Tina Espinoza, of Webster City, IA, a god-child, Alis Vides of Des Moines, IA, two sisters; Zelma Miller, of Chariton, IA, Dorothy Gray, of Portland, OR, two brothers; Robert Gray, of Cincinnati, IA, William Gray, of Des Moines, IA, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Seymoure is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Gilda Carson, Jacque Shipley, two grand-daughters; Angel and Jennifer, and his beloved poodle Annie.
Memorials can be made to Veterans Hospital of Des Moines and Hospice of Central Iowa.
