Sue Cunningham, 63, of Des Moines died Monday, September 3, at Iowa Health Hospice-Taylor House after a courageous battle with cancer. Her family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 6 at Iles Funeral Homes-Grandview Park Chapel.
Sue was born in Somerset, KY on December 14, 1948 to Arthur and Orgie (Mayfield) Cunningham and lived most of her life in Des Moines. She attended Southeast Polk High School where she met her lifelong sweetheart Rod Cunningham. They married on August 12, 1966 and just celebrated their 46th anniversary. Sue enjoyed sewing/quilting, but most of all spending time with her family. Sue and her husband enjoyed many vacations with the grandchildren and spoiling them rotten. She was devoted to her family and loved to attend their activities. Sue was retired from Federal Express.
Those left to cherish Susan's memory include her husband Rodney; son, Ronnie; two daughters, Lisa Stubbs and Laurie (Lee) Pruitt; five grandsons, Ryan Stubbs and Christopher, Justin, Bobby and Austin Pruitt; her beautiful great granddaughter, Sarah Jones-Stubbs; mother, Orgie Vroeg; three brothers, Art (Char), Dick (Sharon) and Jim Cunningham; sister, Betty Busse and sister-in-law, Kim Cunningham. She was preceded in death by her father, Art Cunningham, two brothers, Dean and Harold Cunningham; step-dad, Henry Vroeg; and sister-in-law, Margaret Cunningham.
