Galesburg (IL?) - Mabel A. Blixt, 92, formerly of Galesburg, died at 9:37 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, in Woodlands Creek Senior Living in Clive, Iowa.
She was born Sept. 28, 1920, in Henderson, the daughter of Reuben and Nora May Folger Fields. She married John L. Blixt on Jan. 11, 1941, in Davenport, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 2000.
She is survived by three sons, Larry (and Beth) Blixt and Alan (and Dianna) Blixt, both of Urbandale, Iowa, and Jerry (and Deborah) Blixt of Montclair, Va.; a daughter, Judith (and Stanley) Nelson of Wataga; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and nine sisters.
Mabel worked in the cafeteria for School District 205 for 14 years, retiring in 1980. She was raised in Henderson and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1940. Mabel was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Galesburg and its Elizabeth Circle. She was also a member of the Henderson Birthday Club and volunteered at Galesburg Cottage Hospital and Heartland Health Care Center.
Funeral will be at noon Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Norman Mendell will officiate. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to noon Monday at the chapel.
