Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Tifereth Israel Synagogue of which she was member. Burial will be at Jewish Glendale Cemetery.
Betty was born on January 1, 1925 to her adoring parents, Ida and Matt Pochter. Betty was a graduate of North High School and married Joseph Bernstein on July 7, 1946. They were married for 55 years. Betty worked briefly for the State of Iowa in liquor control commission, but mostly loved being at home raising their daughter, Gloria, which in itself was a full time job.
Betty loved and enjoyed life. Betty was strong, loving and caring, with a great sense of humor. Betty saw the beauty in everything and always had a smile. Betty loved nature, picnics, barbeques, family gatherings, flowers, traveling and spending time outdoors. Betty enjoyed sports, including Drake Basketball and playing with her furry friends Murphy and Jasmine.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Gloria Bernstein of Des Moines, along with many of Gloria's friends who have become adopted daughters through the years. In addition to numerous relatives whom she adored.
Thank you Sandy, Laurie and Shirley for always being there for my mom and I. Gloria would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Leisy for his many years of exceptional care. Thank you to the staff at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Younkers, ICU and Powell for their care and Mercy Hospice in Johnston staff for their caring, respect and guidance in the most difficult times.
Betty leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, respect and caring and was a role model to those around her. Betty will be truly missed in our lives.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Tifereth Israel Synagogue, Mercy Hospice of Johnston or Lambda Kappa Sigma Pharmacy Fraternity.
Thank you mom for teaching me that you are never too old to be young and making the world a better place!
