Margaret Anne Patterson, 86, passed away Monday, November 5, 2012 at Trinity Center at Luther Park.
Margaret was born July 29, 1926 in Des Moines to Henry and Arlie Smith. She graduated from East High School in 1944 and married George Patterson on February 25, 1945. Margaret and George enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren. She was a member of Easton Place United Methodist Church, Lay Street Entertainers and the Des Moines Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Margaret enjoyed volunteering at Valley View Village, the Botanical Center, the election polling booths, and reading to students in the Des Moines Public Schools. Margaret loved to crochet and travel with her group of "Merry Widows".
Margaret is survived by her sons, Steven (Debra) Patterson and Craig Patterson; grandchildren, Todd (Errin) Patterson, Amy (Matt) Van Dyke, Brooke (Spencer) Achenbach and Nicholas (Emily) Patterson; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George and grandson Brian.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 8, 2012 at Easton Place United Methodist Church, 2412 Easton Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to her church or the Alzheimer's Association.
