Maquoketa Excelsior, September 23, 1882.

Henry S. Scribner murdered in Des Moines.

Henry S. Scribner, an old resident of Des Moines, and a brother of the widely-
known Scribners, book publishers, of New York, was knocked down in the street by two roughs a few evenings ago, the blow causing his death in a short time. The object of the assailants was undoubtedly robbery, but the perpetrators of the deed were probably frightened away, as the money on Mr. Scriber’s person and also his gold watch were not taken.
