Mrs. Weltha Hakes, 80, for many years a resident of Laurens, died Friday at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge where she had been a patient for the last four weeks. She had lived at Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge, for several years.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Hitchcock Funeral Home with the Rev. Everett E. Peneook, pastor of the Laurens Methodist Church, officiating.

Pallbearers were George Hoffman, Gale Peterson, E. J. Kees, Neil L. Maurer, C. B. Stewart and Dale Peterson. Burial was in the Laurens Cemetery.

Weltha Luetta Schram, daughter of George and Lucy Jane Schram, was born May 20, 1884, at Brantford, Ontario, Canada. She was married April 22, 1908, at Spokane, Wash., to Byron Arnold Hakes of Laurens, and had been a resident of Laurens since that time.

She was a member of the Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, of which she was a past worthy matron.

Survivors include a son, Montague A. Hakes of Laurens; two daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Allen of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Richard (Jewell) Doyen of Wauwatosa, Wis.; and nine grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death.
