CLARA SMITH DIES AT 85; RITES AT LAKE
CLEAR LAKE – Miss Clara Smith, 85, 306 N. 5th St., died early Thursday in a Mason City hospital. She had been taken there Sunday following a fall in her home.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Ward-Van Slyke Funeral Home with the Rev. Alvern Kinrade of the United Methodist Church officiating.
Further services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church in Rolfe, Ia., with the Rev. Warren Bintz officiating. Burial will be in the Clinton Garfield Cemetery at Rolfe.
Clara M. Smith was born Sept. 4, 1886 at Buckinham, Ill., the daughter of George F. and Amelia (Prussner) Smith. When a child she moved with her family to Rolfe where she attended school. She also graduated from the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls. In 1916 she began teaching in the Spencer Schools. She taught for 41 years in the same building and retired in 1957.
She then moved to Clear Lake to make her home with her sister, Mrs. Art Mickalek.
Surviving are her sister, Mrs. Mickalek, Clear Lake; two brothers, G. Fred Smith, Rolfe; and Guy Smith, Lake City, Minn., and several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Clear Lake where she taught several years in the Sunday School. She was a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service and the Sorosis Club.
