HARLAN E. NEWCOMB
Funeral services for Harlan E. Newcomb were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Chapel, Laurens. He died Jan. 13, at a Cherokee hospital. He was 62. Norman Bates was officiant at the services.
Pall bearers were Brent Newcomb, Tim Newcomb, Rick Hefner, Brian Newcomb, Frank Zech and Eugene Carlson. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery at Spencer with Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Harlan Everett Newcomb, son of Roy and Hazel Howard Newcomb, was born July 16, 1919 near Webb. He grew up in the Webb area and attended Logan #8 rural school in Clay County. He was united in marriage to the former Barbara Oatman on Oct. 28, 1961 in services at Windom, Minn., and they made their home in Marathon where Mr. Newcomb was engaged in trucking. Poor health forced his retirement in 1965 and in 1975 they moved to Laurens.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Spencer.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a son, James, Wichita, Kan.; daughters, Mrs. Roger (Jackie) Mann and Mrs. Cesar (Penny) Canchola, Spencer; four step-children; three grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren and brothers and sisters, Mrs. Howard (Leona) Wallace, Herrick, 111.; Mrs. Irving (Betty) Carlson, Marathon; Melvin Newcomb, Avoca; Robert Newcomb, Greenville; Roy Newcomb Jr., Mn;. Ray (Fay) Willet; Mrs. Irving (Marjorie) Fairchild and Alene Newcomb, all of Spencer.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
