Services set for Ernest Jarvill, long-time resident
Funeral services for Ernest R. Jarvill, a World War I veteran and long-time Laurens resident, will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at Hitchcock Chapel with burial .in the Laurens Cemetery with military honors.
The Rev. George Mullins, pastor of the Bethany Lutheran Church, will be the clergyman, and pall bearers will be Cecil Hartley, Roger Bell, Ernest Edmundson, William Fuchs, E. J. Kees and Robert Mather.
Mr. Jarvill died Monday at the Sun Rise Hill Care Center in Traer. He was 78.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jarvill, he was born at Cambridge Feb. 18, 1896, and came to Laurens as a young man. He was married to Edith Mather at Spencer in 1918 and they made Laurens their home. Mr. Jarvill farmed for a time, then was employed in a number of jobs until his retirement.
Having served with the US Army in Europe during World War I, he was a member of the American Legion for more than 50 years.
Surviving are sons, Larry Jarvill and James Jarvill, both of Mason City; a daughter, Mrs. Delmer Thede of Gladbrook; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a grandson.
